EU, NATO condemn barbaric terrorist attack in Sinai mosque

BRUSSELS, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- The EU and NATO condemned Friday the terrorist attack during the Friday prayers in a mosque North Sinai in which hundreds of people were killed and injured.
"Over the last years, Egypt has been hit by a number of attacks against places of worship of all faiths. No one should be killed because of their religion, no sacred place should be profaned by violence and terrorism. People of all religions are united in the fight against terrorist violence," said EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in a statement.
She stressed that perpetrators of such unbearable acts must be held responsible.
"As Europeans, we share the mourning in front of these tragedies. As institutions, we will continue to stand with the Egyptian authorities and people as they confront the threat from terrorism," added the EU foreign policy chief.
The attack killed 235 people and injured 109 others.
On his part, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg condemned "the barbaric terrorist attack on a mosque in North Sinai." "My thoughts are with all those affected and the people of our partner Egypt," he added. (end) nk.bs
