YEREVAN. – Armenia has evolved from a consumer of peace and security to a supplier, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said at a briefing following a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller who is on a visit to Armenia.

As the minister emphasized, partnership between Armenia and NATO began 25 years ago and the cooperation has expanded.

“This visit is a good opportunity to sum up the achievements and outline the prospects,” Nalbandian said, recalling that the traditional week of NATO is taking place in Yerevan on December 13-18.

During the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, the importance of high-level political dialogue and contacts was underscored. The sides noted with satisfaction the launch of the implementation of the fifth Individual Partnership Action Program, Nalbandian said, adding that the importance of the practical implementation of the Trust Fund has been stressed.

The Foreign Minister said that Armenia continues to make an important contribution to peacekeeping activities.

“Our country, having serious security problems itself, nevertheless contributes to the preservation of peace and security in the world,” he emphasized.

According to the Minister, during the meeting the sides touched upon a number of regional and international issues.

“I presented the current stage of the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the efforts of Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries into finding an exceptionally peaceful settlement. In this context, we attach importance to the contribution of NATO to the efforts and approaches of the co-chairing countries,” Nalbandian added.
