NATO leaders have warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that he must meet a deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine or face the consequences.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, speaking in Brussels on Friday, said there must be consequences if Russia doesn’t agree to a ceasefire proposal.

Joly is in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, to meet with her NATO counterparts.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna added that there must be red lines regarding a timetable for a Ukraine ceasefire.

“(Russian President Vladimir Putin) is asking for more, and he is not asking only more about Ukraine. He’s just putting new conditions on the table (…) there must be some kind of red lines on the timetable,” Tsahkna said.

This comes as a senior NATO official revealed that Russia has suffered about 900,000 casualties since the war started in February 2022, the German press agency DPA reports.

The British Ministry of Defence said in its latest intelligence update that up to 250,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since Putin began his brutal invasion of Ukraine.
