Travis named president of Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants

CRANSTON – Melissa D. Travis has been named president of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Travis previously was director of commercial sales at HealthSource RI for Employers, which she joined in 2013. She has extensive experience in both business and government in Rhode Island, according to the society, with a career that has included business development and sales, small-business services, government health care, state economic development, and international trade and customs support.

“We are thrilled to have a professional with the extensive experience of Melissa Travis become our society’s new president,” said John Ayers, vice chairman of the society’s board of directors. “Her considerable background in business development, finance and government advocacy, as well as having strong organizational management and leadership skills will make her a great president of our society.”

Travis received the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Rhode Island SBA District Director Award in 2016. Before that, the society said, she had an award-winning career in sales with Tandberg/CISCO and Teknor Apex in Pawtucket. She also was the first woman named to the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association’s board of directors.
