The United States is supporting terrorism in Syria by imposing sanctions on Damascus that are not in line with the UN resolutions and attacking positions of the Syrian government army, Bouthaina Shaaban, political and media advisor to Syrian President Bashar Assad, said on Tuesday.

The United States is trying with all its might to destroy Syria and undermine its infrastructure, Assad advisor Bouthaina Shaaban said.

"Americans are trying with all their might to destroy our country, to undermine its infrastructure. Of course, it is now absolutely clear that terrorism is not a natural disaster, it is planned terrorism that is supported by certain states," Shaaban said.

US Urges Allies to Send 1,500 Troops to Syria to Create Safe Zone – Reports
"There are numerous examples of the United States repeatedly opening fire on positions of the Syrian national army. Under such circumstances, Western counties introduce new sanctions against the Syrian Arab Republic which have nothing to do with either UN resolutions or international law. In this sense, the United States supports terrorism in Syria and does not want to engage in dialogue with the Syrian government, while being always ready to host talks with heads of terrorist groups," Shaaban added.

Syrian media have repeatedly reported on US-led coalition strikes, which have led to countless civilian casualties and damage to crucial infrastructure in the Arab Republic. The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries has been conducting airstrikes on Daesh positions since 2014, in a mission that was authorised neither by the Syrian government nor the UN Security Council.

In December, US President Donald Trump announced that US forces would soon leave Syria and declared the Daesh* terror group defeated in the country.
