The draft bill On Transparency of Foreign Influence is a step backward and does not further Euro-Atlantic integration, said Javier Colomina, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.

According to Javier Colomina, NATO is concerned about passing the bill with the first reading.

“NATO is concerned about the draft law passed in the first reading in Tbilisi. The key for Georgia, as NATO aspirant, is to have the right framework to ensure media freedom and civil society participation. This draft is a step backward and does not further Euro-Atlantic integration,” he said.

On April 17, the Georgian parliament adopted the draft bill On Transparency of Foreign Influence with the first reading at the plenary sitting. Eighty-three MPs underwent registration and all of them voted for.
